Project Overview

Whats The Need?

Plant shop owner Jill Kelly needs a digital presence for her brand new store The Plant Shop which includes a way to see what kind of plants she sells, pricing, and ways to care for plants.

Getting Started

Project Kickoff

To start, we wanted to have a collective and common understanding of the shop owner’s style.

We brainstormed the why behind the website.

Our first meeting focused on 4 major questions about business goals:

1.

How do other plant shops do it?

2.

How can customers contact the business with questions?

3.

How can the business grow over time?

4.

What do we want to offer to our customers?

Competitive Analysis

After getting a better understanding of our primary focus for the new website, we conducted a competitive analysis of the website and similar products and services.

From this research of reviewing existing features and functions across competitive products, we were able to uncover the most common features and user cases for the different and similar products and services offered across multiple plant shops.

We looked at 3 different competitors:

Site Map

Before diving into designs, we needed to have a grasp on how we wanted the minimal viable product (MVP) of the site’s information architecture to be organized.

User Flow

After organizing the site's architecture, the next step was to outline how the site would flow, especially for its primary flow for the MVP.

Logo & Branding

I asked my client these 3 main questions:

Do you want your business to have branding similar to your personality, or your style?

“My plant shop is a part of me, it would make sense for the branding to be similar to my personality and as if i were to brand myself”

What kind of color palettes stand out to you most?

“I enjoy pastels and earth tones. Spring is my favorite season, so my favorite colors are pastel green but also love yellows.

What is the overall “vibe,” mood. or style you want utilized in your brand?

“ I want to showcase my personality through my branding and my plant shop. I want it to be fun with nodes to 70’s culture and style.

Mood board

From our ideation conversation about branding and digital presence, I dove into creating a mood board for my clients website.

The mood board’s purpose is to provide a summary and have a visual summary of both parties’ understanding of the overall visual aesthetic captured in the website.

The mood board includes scenes she mentions she enjoys, as well as games and activities she enjoys, and an image of my client since we want this branding to also capture them.

Style Tile

After my client approved the mood board, decorative font family, and color palette, it was time to create the style tile for the website.

The style tile serves as a visual summary of UI elements that will make up the whole websites once it is designed and live.

Summary and next steps

Our next steps for this project include:

  1. Iterate designs and upgrade from medium fidelity to high fidelity.

  2. Bring the high-fidelity mockup designs to the client Squarespace.

  3. Launch the site!

  4. Continue to market this service to potential customers.
